Thu Sep 19 11:07:47 UTC 2024: ## ICC Announces Equal Prize Money for 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup Winners
**Dubai, UAE:** In a historic move promoting gender equality in sports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the winners of the 2024 T20 Women’s World Cup will receive the same prize money as their male counterparts. This decision, taken in July at the ICC’s Annual Conference, marks a significant step towards closing the pay gap in cricket.
The tournament, scheduled for October in the United Arab Emirates, will see its champions receive a record-breaking $2.34 million, a massive 134% increase from the previous edition. The runners-up will also be handsomely rewarded with $1.17 million, compared to $500,000 in 2023. This significant boost in prize money across all positions, with the two losing semi-finalists receiving $675,000 each, elevates the total prize pool to $7.958,080, a staggering 225% jump from the previous year.
“This move is in line with the ICC’s strategy to prioritize the women’s game and accelerate its growth by 2032,” stated the ICC in a press release. “Teams will now receive equal prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events as well as the same amount for winning a match at those events. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 event prize money is only higher on account of 10 additional teams participating and 32 more matches played.”
This landmark decision is expected to be a major catalyst in further promoting the women’s game, attracting talent, and ultimately boosting the profile of women’s cricket globally.
