**Pittston, PA** – A Pennsylvania woman has recounted the harrowing story of her survival after being stabbed 37 times by her ex-boyfriend, including in the chest and abdomen. Yuanita Folk, now 40, was attacked in her own home by Delton Kirkland, 38, who had previously been arraigned on domestic assault charges just 16 days prior.
The attack occurred in the middle of the night, while Folk was asleep. Kirkland choked and stabbed her repeatedly before dragging her around the house. She managed to escape when Kirkland momentarily backed away, saying he was going to jail. Despite her severe injuries and being covered in blood, Folk ran out of her house barefoot, screaming for help.
With Kirkland close behind, she managed to reach a Luzerne County Transportation Authority bus. The quick-thinking female driver allowed Folk to board, refusing to let Kirkland enter. Police arrived shortly after and apprehended Kirkland.
Folk suffered multiple stab wounds to her chest, arms, and abdomen, as well as lacerations to her lungs and liver. She went into a coma following surgery and spent a month in intensive care, undergoing multiple operations. Doctors revealed she had two cardiac arrests and had to have half of her left lung removed.
Kirkland pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and simple assault, receiving a sentence of 9 to 18 years in prison.
Folk, who now lives in a different state with her children, says she still suffers from the trauma of the attack and hasn’t slept soundly since. She claims she discovered Kirkland had gang ties, making her a target even after her relocation. She says she wants to share her story as a warning to others that domestic violence can happen to anyone, without warning.
