**Mumbai, India -** Hindalco Industries, the Aditya Birla Group’s aluminum giant, is set to enter the solar module manufacturing sector. The company is currently evaluating a five-year plan to establish a manufacturing plant in Mundra, Gujarat. While the final capital expenditure plans and board approval are pending, this move marks Hindalco’s first foray into green energy component production.
This strategic decision aligns with Hindalco’s dominance in aluminum manufacturing, a key material used in solar panels. The company previously partnered with Greenko Group in 2022 to generate solar and wind energy for its smelters.
The entry of Hindalco into the solar module market comes at a time when India is aggressively expanding its renewable energy capacity. The country aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of clean energy by 2030.
This move also puts Hindalco in direct competition with other major players in the industry. Reliance Industries is preparing to begin solar module production at its Jamnagar facility later this year, while Tata Power is already manufacturing solar modules and cells at its existing plants.
