**Gurugram, India:** Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Gurugram district administration has issued notices to 18 candidates for violating the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct. The violations include unauthorized campaigning, illegal hoardings, and events held at unapproved locations.
Sohna constituency saw the most violations with eight notices, followed by Badshahpur with six and Gurgaon with four. The district administration has emphasized the importance of adhering to election guidelines for a fair electoral process.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav highlighted the frequent violation of campaigning without prior approval from the Returning Officer (RO). “Candidates are required to obtain approval for public events, but they were found hosting rallies and meetings without clearance,” he said.
Another significant violation involved the placement of unauthorized hoardings and banners in public spaces. “This breaches both the Model Code of Conduct and local laws. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” said the official.
Candidates organizing events at unapproved venues also faced notices. Yadav stated, “Using public spaces for campaign events without prior approval is a serious violation. We urge all candidates to adhere to the Election Commission’s guidelines.”
The administration warned that violations would be added to the candidates’ election expenditure accounts and could result in further action by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Expenditure observer Shravan Kumar Bansal directed candidates in the Pataudi (SC) and Badshahpur constituencies to maintain accurate records of campaign expenditure, staying within the ₹40 lakh spending limit set by the ECI.
District officials pointed out that recent advertisements lacked proper disclosure, printing details, and information on the number of printed copies. The administration warned that violations of the election code will not be tolerated and could lead to legal consequences, including fines.
