Wed Sep 18 13:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Bruins Training Camp Begins Without Goalie Jeremy Swayman as Contract Talks Continue

**Boston, MA** – The Boston Bruins opened their training camp on Wednesday without star goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who remains unsigned as contract negotiations continue.

General Manager Don Sweeney confirmed that no deal has been reached with Swayman, who has been a restricted free agent since the off-season. While Sweeney expressed optimism about a deal being finalized by December 1st, he also stated that Swayman will not report to camp without a contract.

“Every day that Jeremy is out it hurts our team, and it hurts him because of preparation that we would like to do and he needs to do,” said Sweeney. “But it’s not going to stop from hopefully finding the common ground and getting it done.”

Sweeney also dispelled rumors that an eight-year deal had been agreed upon. “That’s 100 percent inaccurate,” he stated.

Swayman’s absence is particularly notable given the Bruins’ trade of Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Linus Ullmark to Ottawa in the off-season, signaling their intention to make Swayman their starting goalie.

The 25-year-old goaltender had a stellar season, ranking fifth in the NHL with a .916 save percentage and eighth with a 2.53 goals-against average. He also started 12 games in the playoffs, compared to Ullmark’s one.

The Bruins’ training camp roster was released on Tuesday, with 50 players reporting to the Warrior Ice Arena. The team’s official announcement noted that the roster and schedule were subject to change, suggesting the possibility of Swayman joining the team later.

The first on-ice practice of the camp is scheduled for Thursday.
