Veteran actor Gary Oldman, known for his portrayal of Sirius Black in the “Harry Potter” films, has expressed interest in returning to the wizarding world for HBO’s upcoming TV series. While acknowledging that he hasn’t been approached for any roles, Oldman admitted that he felt Sirius’s presence in the films was somewhat limited.
“I love Sirius,” Oldman said at the Emmys red carpet. “He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.”
While Oldman anticipates a completely new cast for the series, he playfully suggested a future role as Albus Dumbledore, should the opportunity arise.
The HBO series, slated for a 2026 release, has already begun casting for the iconic trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, seeking young actors between the ages of 9 and 11. The series is expected to span 10 years and will be led by “Succession” duo Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod as writer and director, respectively.
Oldman’s potential return as Dumbledore would be a welcome addition to the series, adding a seasoned veteran to the mix of fresh faces. Whether he takes on the role of the Hogwarts headmaster or not, his comments have stirred excitement amongst fans, hinting at a potential resurgence of magic on the small screen.
