Thu Sep 19 18:08:59 UTC 2024: ## Union Minister Calls Rahul Gandhi “Number One Terrorist”, Doubles Down on Criticism
**New Delhi:** Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has intensified his verbal attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, refusing to apologize for calling him the country’s “number one terrorist.” The row stems from Gandhi’s recent comments on Sikhs during his US visit, where he spoke of the fight for Sikhs’ right to wear turbans, kada (bracelets), and access to Gurdwaras.
Bittu, a Sikh himself, claims Gandhi’s remarks echo those of Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, who has publicly endorsed them. The minister argues that Gandhi’s comments paint a misleading picture of India, where Sikhs are not facing such restrictions. He challenges Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to produce a single Sikh who is denied these rights, demanding an apology for Gandhi’s statements.
Bittu further accused Gandhi of being a “separatist” and a “traitor” for making “negative” comments about India abroad. He pointed out Gandhi’s frequent foreign trips and alleged lack of love for the country.
The Congress has strongly condemned Bittu’s remarks, calling them “unfortunate” and demanding an apology. However, the Minister has doubled down, emphasizing his personal pain as a Sikh and accusing the Gandhi family of historical wrongs against the community, citing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the ongoing Khalistani insurgency.
This latest escalation in the war of words between the BJP and Congress highlights the rising tensions ahead of the 2024 general elections. The controversy surrounding Gandhi’s comments on Sikhs is likely to further polarize the political landscape and ignite sensitive religious issues.
