Beatrice, NE – The Freeman Falcons volleyball team dominated Johnson County Central in a two-set sweep Tuesday night, securing their place in the MUDECAS A Division Championship game.
The Falcons, seeded No. 1 in the division, cruised to a 25-6, 25-18 victory over the Thunderbirds at the Truman Center. The win comes on the heels of a previous victory over JCC last week, demonstrating Freeman’s strong command of the court.
Freeman’s offense was led by Alicia Johansen, who tallied four kills in the first set, while Addison Kastanek added a kill and Ruby Goes contributed an ace. The Falcons’ defense was equally impressive, forcing JCC into multiple timeouts.
The second set saw a more competitive matchup, but ultimately Freeman’s strong play prevailed. Lily Wiese and Johansen both recorded kills, while Kastanek added two more kills. The Falcons finished strong, securing the final set with a score of 25-18.
Ashley Beethe led JCC with six kills in the match, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Freeman’s dominance. The Thunderbirds fall to 8-2 on the season, both losses coming against Freeman.
Freeman now stands at 12-1 on the season, ready to face the third-seeded Bruning-Davenport-Shickley team in the A Division Championship game on Thursday at 8 pm. BDS advanced to the championship by defeating the second-seeded Johnson-Brock in three sets.
The MUDECAS tournament will continue Thursday with a series of games, culminating in the A and B Division championship games. Other A Division matches will include Diller-Odell vs. Meridian and Palmyra vs. Exeter-Milligan/Friend.
The B Division will see Tri County face Falls City Sacred Heart for the championship. Tri County, the No. 1 seed, defeated Southern in two sets to reach the finals.
All games will be held at the Truman Center on Thursday.
