Former President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will be meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week during the Prime Minister’s visit to the US.
Modi is scheduled to be in the US this weekend for a summit of the Quad, a group formally called the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, which includes the leaders of Australia and Japan. President Joe Biden will host the summit in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
The meeting between Modi and Trump, which was not previously reported, was mentioned by the Republican presidential nominee during an unrelated event in Flint, Michigan.
The Indian embassy in Washington has not yet commented on the meeting.
This meeting follows a pattern of Trump meeting with foreign leaders, including Hungary’s nationalist prime minister Viktor Orbán and Polish President Andrzej Duda, as well as British PM and Foreign Secretary David Cameron. Foreign leaders have explained that these meetings are part of standard diplomatic protocol when engaging with opposition figures.
