Former US President Donald Trump announced he will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week during his visit to the US. The announcement came during a campaign rally in Michigan, where Trump described Modi as a “fantastic man” while simultaneously criticizing India’s trade practices.
Trump claimed India is a “very big abuser” of trade ties, citing high tariffs imposed on imports. Despite this, he expressed admiration for Modi, stating, “He happens to be coming to meet me next week…he’s fantastic.” He provided no further details about the meeting.
The meeting will take place during PM Modi’s three-day visit to the US from September 21 to 23. Modi’s agenda includes attending the Quad Summit hosted by President Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, addressing the Indian community in Long Island, and speaking at the UN General Assembly’s ‘Summit of the Future’ in New York. The last meeting between Modi and Trump was in February 2020 during the former US President’s visit to India. At the time, Modi lauded the visit as a “path-breaking moment” in strengthening relations between the two nations.
