Wed Sep 18 02:12:02 UTC 2024: ## DHS Accused of Stonewalling Investigation into Trump Assassination Attempt

**Washington, D.C. -** Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, has accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of “stonewalling” a congressional probe into the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Blumenthal expressed his outrage at the lack of cooperation from DHS, stating that the agency has been “almost derelict in its duty” by refusing to provide documents, evidence, and information related to the July 13 shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident left the former president, two others wounded, and one man dead.

The senator emphasized the urgency of the investigation, arguing that DHS’s lack of transparency fuels dangerous conspiracy theories and undermines its own credibility. He further stated that he is prepared to issue a subpoena if necessary to obtain the requested materials.

Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), the ranking member on the committee, echoed Blumenthal’s concerns, highlighting that the lack of cooperation from DHS is “driving suspicion and driving conspiracy theories.”

Last week, Senator Blumenthal hinted that the committee’s investigation revealed shocking failures by the Secret Service at the Butler rally. He also criticized DHS’s lack of transparency, stating that the agency has been “appallingly” unforthcoming in providing information.

DHS has yet to respond to requests for comment.
