**LOS ANGELES** – Soccer legend David Beckham has revealed that he disliked the process of making his Emmy-winning Netflix documentary, “Beckham,” despite its critical acclaim.
Speaking to Variety, Beckham admitted that he found the experience “nerve-wracking” and that he and his wife, Victoria, were anxious about the project. “It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I was going to make it,” Beckham explained.
Despite his initial reluctance, Beckham chose to produce the documentary with his production company, Studio 99, to explore his career and personal life in depth. The four-part series, directed by Fisher Stevens (who was recommended by Leonardo DiCaprio), delved into Beckham’s highs and lows, both on and off the pitch, including his emotional struggles and challenging moments.
Beckham’s aversion to the process stemmed from the raw and unfiltered portrayal of his life, which he knew would force him to confront difficult memories. “When I met Fisher, I knew this is the man that will make me feel really uncomfortable and I knew I had to feel uncomfortable to make the documentary we made,” Beckham admitted.
The documentary, which Beckham chose not to watch until its release, even faced criticism for its lack of details about Beckham’s alleged affair with his former assistant, Rebecca Loos.
Despite the challenges, Beckham and Victoria ultimately embraced the finished product, and the documentary’s critical acclaim speaks for itself. Currently, Beckham and Studio 99 are collaborating with Netflix on an untitled documentary focusing on Victoria’s life.
