Wed Sep 18 03:36:14 UTC 2024: ## Aspinall Confirmed as Backup for Jones-Miocic Title Bout at UFC 309

**New York City, NY** – Tom Aspinall will be on standby for the highly anticipated heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, UFC President Dana White confirmed. The interim heavyweight champion expressed his desire to serve as the backup fighter, and White responded positively.

“Yes,” White said when asked about Aspinall’s role. “Tom Aspinall is next in line for anything that happens after this fight.”

While being the backup fighter gives Aspinall a chance to potentially step in and fight for the undisputed championship, it doesn’t guarantee it. History has shown that injuries can disrupt even the most anticipated bouts, as was the case with the original Jones-Miocic fight scheduled for UFC 295.

Aspinall, however, might not get his “dream fight” against Jones even if the title fight goes off without a hitch. Jones recently hinted that UFC 309 might be his final fight, contradicting White’s previous statements that Jones would face Aspinall should he defeat Miocic.

“Why speak to him after this event?” White responded when asked about Jones’s comments. “You’ve got to figure out what’s going to happen in this fight. See how this fight plays out and then we’ll go from there.”

UFC 309 takes place on November 16th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Fans will be watching closely to see if Aspinall gets his shot at the heavyweight title, and whether Jones will truly walk away from the sport after the fight.
