Wed Sep 18 01:53:36 UTC 2024: ## Trudeau Suffers Another Setback as Bloc Québécois Wins By-Election in Quebec

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has faced another defeat in a by-election, losing the LaSalle-Émard-Verdun seat in Quebec to the Bloc Québécois. The victory came after a close race, with Bloc Québécois candidate Louis-Philippe Sauvé securing 28% of the vote, narrowly defeating the Liberal candidate, Laura Palestini, by less than 250 votes.

This loss adds to the Liberal Party’s growing string of by-election defeats, including the loss of the Toronto-St. Paul’s seat in June. This recent string of defeats comes as public opinion polls show a decline in support for the Liberal Party. Trudeau, who has been Prime Minister for nine years, currently holds a 26% approval rating, while Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre enjoys a 45% rating.

Despite the recent setbacks, Trudeau expressed his commitment to continue working for Canadians. In a press conference, he stated that “there’s more work to do” and stressed the importance of Canadians understanding the choices they have in the next election.

The by-election results could signal further challenges for Trudeau’s Liberal Party and suggest a growing desire for change among Canadian voters.
