Milwaukee Brewers fans were hoping to celebrate their team clinching the NL Central division title on Tuesday evening, but the Philadelphia Phillies dashed those hopes with a 5-1 victory.
While the Chicago Cubs’ loss to the Oakland Athletics put the Brewers in a prime position to clinch, their own defeat meant their magic number remained at 1.
Despite the disappointment, a large crowd of over 30,000 fans filled American Family Field, eager to witness history. “I’ll be here tomorrow and the next day,” said Menomonee Falls resident AJ Ryczek. “I wanna see it. This is a special team. We’re young, and it’d be really special to see it here in Milwaukee.”
The Brewers, who have won the NL Central four times previously (2011, 2018, 2021), will have another chance to secure the title on Wednesday night against the Phillies. RHP Freddy Peralta will take the mound for Milwaukee in the series finale.
