**MILWAUKEE, WI -** The Philadelphia Phillies spoiled the Milwaukee Brewers’ potential NL Central championship celebration on Tuesday night, defeating them 5-1 in a game that saw Bryce Harper hit a game-winning two-run home run in the sixth inning.
The Brewers, whose magic number to clinch the division dropped to one, were hoping to celebrate their title after the Chicago Cubs lost earlier in the day. However, Harper’s 29th home run of the season, which also brought home Kyle Schwarber, put the Phillies in control.
Zack Wheeler, a strong Cy Young Award candidate, pitched seven dominant innings for the Phillies, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out six. Wheeler has now pitched nine consecutive starts without giving up more than two runs.
The Phillies also got a solo home run from Nick Castellanos and a three-hit performance from Trea Turner, who added an RBI single in the ninth.
Frankie Montas, who struck out ten Brewers batters, took the loss for Milwaukee. Despite his strong performance, he gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings, including Harper’s decisive homer.
The Phillies, who lowered their magic number to four for clinching the NL East title, will look to continue their winning ways and seal the division crown in the coming days. The Brewers, on the other hand, will have to wait at least another day to celebrate their divisional championship.
