Thu Sep 19 00:06:51 UTC 2024: ## 10-Year-Old Japanese Boy Stabbed to Death on Way to Shenzhen School

**SHENZHEN, China** – A 10-year-old Japanese boy was fatally stabbed on Wednesday morning while walking to school in Shenzhen, China, marking the second attack near a Japanese educational facility in the country in recent months.

The victim, a Japanese national born to a Japanese father and a Chinese mother, was attacked at approximately 8 am by a 44-year-old Chinese man named Zhong. The boy died in the early hours of Thursday despite medical efforts.

The attack occurred outside Shenzhen Japanese School, a popular institution in the affluent Shekou area, known for its foreign community and international schools. Following the incident, people laid wreaths at the school gates, expressing grief and outrage.

“As Chinese people, we oppose this behaviour, we oppose teachings of hatred,” said one man who identified himself as a local resident. “Many of us have been under such teachings of hate for a long time, leading to such evil consequences.”

The timing of the incident coincides with the anniversary of the Mukden Incident, a pivotal event in 1931 that sparked the Second Sino-Japanese War. This sensitive date has further heightened tensions between Japan and China, which are already facing diplomatic difficulties.

“I actually did not know 18th September was this day for Chinese people to take revenge for things in the Second World War,” said a Japanese father of two children living in Shenzhen, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns. “I have lived here for seven years and did not know we need to be cautious for being Japanese while living in China.”

Japan has demanded a detailed explanation of the attack from Chinese authorities and urged them to implement strong security measures to protect Japanese nationals.

The incident echoes a similar attack in June, where a man assaulted a bus used by a Japanese school in the eastern city of Suzhou, resulting in the death of a Chinese man who intervened to protect a Japanese mother and her child.

The Japanese chamber of commerce in Shenzhen has urged the Japanese government to prioritize the safety of its citizens in the region.

This latest attack has sparked concerns about the safety of Japanese nationals living and studying in China.
