Thu Sep 19 14:08:25 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Day One of First Test Against Bangladesh, Ashwin & Jadeja Shine

**Chennai, India:** A dominant performance from India’s lower order, spearheaded by a century from Ravichandran Ashwin and a half-century from Ravindra Jadeja, put India in a strong position at the end of the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday. India finished the day at 339/6, having recovered from a shaky start where they were reduced to 144/6.

Ashwin reached his sixth Test century, remaining unbeaten on 102, while Jadeja’s unbeaten 86 was his 21st half-century in the format. The duo’s unbroken 195-run partnership for the seventh wicket proved crucial in rescuing India from a perilous position.

Earlier in the day, India’s top order struggled against the Bangladesh bowlers. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a glimmer of hope with his 56-run knock, his fifth Test half-century, and a valuable 50-run partnership with Rishabh Pant, who scored 39. However, the dismissal of both players left India struggling at 144/6 before the Ashwin-Jadeja stand took charge.

Bangladesh bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the pick of the bowlers, taking four and one wicket respectively.

Play resumes on Saturday morning at 9:30 AM, with India looking to build on their strong foundation and put further pressure on Bangladesh.
