**New Delhi, India** – WhatsApp is adding a new feature to its Status feature, allowing users to mention their contacts in their updates. This feature, similar to tagging on platforms like Instagram, will allow users to share their Status with specific people and even encourage resharing.
The new feature, currently being tested by beta users on Android, enables users to tag contacts by clicking a new “@” button next to the caption bar when sharing a photo or video. When tagged, contacts will receive a notification and have the option to reshare the Status with their own audience.
However, unlike Instagram, the original poster’s name remains hidden when a tagged contact reshares the Status, ensuring the creator’s privacy.
While the official release date for the feature is still pending, users can opt into WhatsApp’s beta program for early access. This new feature marks another step in WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user interaction and engagement within the platform.
