Bundeena, NSW – The Bundeena RSL sub-Branch recently helped fulfill the dying wish of a Korean War veteran, Donald Campbell, by scattering his ashes in the sea off Jibbon Head.

Campbell, who was born at the Nepean Dam in 1928, spent his early years around the Royal National Park. He joined the Navy at 19 and served two years and three months on HMAS Anzac during the Korean War. His daughter, Christine Starling, contacted the Bundeena RSL after his passing, expressing his desire to have his ashes spread at sea.

The RSL sub-Branch was happy to assist. Last Saturday, Christine and her brother Paul traveled from Melbourne to Sydney with their father’s ashes. They were met by sub-Branch president David Williams who took them by boat to Jibbon Head. After a remembrance service at the Memorial Crypt, Christine and Paul fulfilled Campbell’s wish.

Campbell, a skilled horse rider, won many Jim Gymkhana Competitions and taught a young lady to ride for the movie “Bush Christmas”. He was also a founding member of the Bundeena Horsemen’s Association and the Cronulla Rugby League Club.

The Bundeena RSL sub-Branch honored Campbell’s final request, offering a poignant and respectful farewell to a local hero.
