**Manila, Philippines** – Vice President Sara Duterte, in a surprising revelation, stated that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., her running mate during the 2022 elections, was never her friend.
Speaking to reporters after a surprise appearance at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 18, Vice President Duterte stated that she and President Marcos only became acquainted during their campaign partnership.
“We didn’t really talk, first of all, we weren’t friends,” she said. “We just knew each other when we became running mates.” The Vice President emphasized that prior to the elections, they had no communication. Their interactions were limited to campaign activities and work-related matters.
Vice President Duterte clarified that her true friend is Senator Imee Marcos, the President’s sister, whom she has known since 2012.
This statement comes amidst increasing criticism from Vice President Duterte towards the Marcos administration, which she has voiced since officially leaving her post as Department of Education Secretary in July.
While Vice President Duterte had affectionately referred to President Marcos as “Apo BBM” during the campaign, their relationship appears to have changed significantly since then. Their last known conversation occurred in June when Vice President Duterte tendered her resignation to President Marcos at the Malacañang Palace.
Vice President Duterte’s appearance at the House of Representatives was to attend an inquiry regarding the Office of the Vice President’s fund usage. However, she refused to take an oath and left the hearing early.
