Wed Sep 18 03:06:48 UTC 2024: ## Trump Claims Modi Will Meet Him During US Visit, Slams India as “Abuser” on Tariffs

**WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, Sept. 18:** Former President Donald Trump has revealed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet him next week during Modi’s upcoming three-day visit to the United States. While praising Modi as a “fantastic man,” Trump simultaneously labeled India as a “very big abuser” regarding import tariffs.

Trump made the comments during his first public appearance since a recent apparent assassination attempt. He stated that Modi will meet him in the US while discussing trade and tariffs at a town hall in Flint, Michigan. Trump continued his criticism of India, claiming the country imposes heavy tariffs on imports.

“These people are the sharpest people… they use it against us. But India is very tough. Brazil is very tough… China is the toughest of all, but we were taking care of China with the tariffs,” Trump said.

He also reiterated his stance on reciprocal trade, arguing that the US should impose tariffs on other countries matching those imposed on American goods.

The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi has not responded to Trump’s comments.

Modi’s visit to the US, scheduled for September 21-23, will include attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. He will also address a large community event in Long Island on September 22 and deliver a speech at the UN Summit of the Future on September 23.

Modi’s visit takes place just under two months before the US presidential election, where Trump is running against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. The general election will take place on November 5.
