**TAIPEI, Taiwan** – A Taiwanese entrepreneur is facing scrutiny after his company, Gold Apollo, was linked to pagers used in deadly explosions in Lebanon and Syria. The company, known for its pager technology, claims it had no involvement in the creation or export of the explosive devices.
Gold Apollo’s founder, Hsu Ching-kuang, asserts that his company only manufactured the pagers and sold them to a Hungarian firm, BAC Consulting. However, the pagers used in the attacks were reportedly modified, with the exact method and timing of the modifications remaining unclear.
Suspicion has fallen on Israel as the orchestrator of the bombings, according to sources cited by Reuters and The New York Times.
Hsu describes a complex chain of events involving BAC Consulting, a company with a vague online presence and an apparent interest in East Africa. The founder, Cristiana Bársony-Arcidiacono, claims expertise in natural resources and development, but her LinkedIn profile and contact information raise further questions.
Hsu notes that BAC requested the use of Gold Apollo’s trademark for its own products and conducted unusual financial transactions, including payments from a Middle Eastern bank account.
Taiwanese officials have confirmed that no records exist of direct pager exports from Taiwan to Lebanon during the relevant period. However, they believe the pagers were likely modified after being exported from Taiwan.
The investigation into the explosive pagers and their origins continues. The incident highlights the potential for seemingly innocuous technology to be exploited for nefarious purposes and exposes the complex web of international connections involved in such activities.
