**Gaza City, Palestine** – A groundbreaking program spearheaded by the Jordanian Armed Forces has brought hope to thousands of amputees in Gaza. Two mobile clinics equipped with cutting-edge British technology began operating on Monday, aiming to fit functioning prosthetics within an hour for each of the estimated 14,000 amputees.
The program utilizes innovative, easy-to-fit sockets developed by UK companies Koalaa and Amparo, designed for both upper and lower limbs. Each fitting is digitally documented, enabling remote follow-up by specialist doctors in Jordan and beyond.
“Our project is unique not only in the sheer number of prosthetics provided but also in its speed,” said Brigadier General Mustafa al Hiyari. “Specialists will be able to install a prosthetic limb in less than an hour. For those unable to reach the hospital, our equipped vans will come to them.”
The initiative comes as Gaza faces a devastating humanitarian crisis. New analysis reveals that only 17% of the required food aid is entering the region, leading to widespread hunger and malnutrition. Aid organizations report that only 35% of necessary insulin and half the required blood supply are available, while over 1.87 million people lack adequate shelter.
“The situation was intolerable long before last October’s escalation and is beyond catastrophic now,” declared Jolien Veldwijk, CARE Country Director in the West Bank and Gaza. “Over 11 months, we have reached shocking levels of conflict, displacement, disease and hunger. Yet, aid is still not getting in, and humanitarian workers are risking their lives to do their jobs while attacks and violations of international law intensify.”
The Israeli government and military claim that aid is entering Gaza but that aid organizations are not distributing it effectively. They accuse Hamas of stealing aid for its own use.
While the program provides a much-needed lifeline for Gaza’s amputees, it underscores the pressing need for a comprehensive solution to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, ensuring adequate access to food, medical supplies, and shelter.
