Mon Sep 16 16:00:51 UTC 2024: ## Taylor Swift Ignores Controversy as Boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Chiefs Win

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, known for his outspoken conservative Christian views, helped secure a 26-25 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 15th. Butker, the highest-paid kicker in the league, nailed a crucial 51-yard field goal, bailing out quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Notably, Taylor Swift, girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was present and celebrated the win, seemingly unfazed by Butker’s recent controversial statements.

Butker previously sparked outrage with a speech at Benedictine College in May where he delivered a series of politically charged remarks widely criticized as anti-LGBTQ+, sexist, and misogynistic. He even name-dropped Swift, using lyrics from her song “Bejeweled” to criticize what he sees as the dangers of modern society.

The speech led to widespread condemnation from members of the Kansas City community and beyond. “Harrison Butker doesn’t represent Kansas City nor has he ever,” stated Justice Horn, former Chair of the City of Kansas City’s LGBTQ Commission. “Kansas City has always been a place that welcomes, affirms and embraces our LGBTQ+ community members.”

Despite the controversy, Butker signed a four-year, $26.5 million contract extension in August, solidifying his position as the league’s highest-paid kicker. The Chiefs, who are aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl title, will face the Atlanta Falcons on September 22nd.
