Wed Sep 18 06:12:59 UTC 2024: ## Indian Stock Market Holds Steady Ahead of US Fed Rate Decision
**Mumbai, India** – The Indian stock market closed Tuesday with modest gains, reflecting a cautious optimism among investors ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. The benchmark Nifty 50 index rose 0.14% to 25,418.55, while the S&P BSE Sensex gained 0.11% to close at 83,079.66, just below its all-time high of 83,184.34.
The market has been trading within a narrow range for the past three sessions, with investors closely watching the two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting that began on September 17th. The FOMC’s decision on whether to lower interest rates, expected by Wednesday evening, will have a significant impact on global markets.
“Participants are in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the US Fed meeting, although rotational buying in large-cap stocks is maintaining a positive tone,” said Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research at Religare Broking. He recommends a “buy on dips” strategy, targeting an upside of 25,550 in the Nifty.
Despite the cautious sentiment, some sectors showed strength, including banking, financials, realty, and IT. Several analysts have highlighted specific stocks for potential gains in the coming days, including:
* **Gravita India Ltd**: Sumeet Bagadia of Choice Broking recommends buying at ₹2664.65 with a stop loss at ₹2575 and a target price of ₹2888.
