**CHICAGO (AP)** – Shea Langeliers blasted two home runs, including a towering solo shot that cleared the left-field bleachers at Wrigley Field, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
Langeliers’ third multi-homer game of the season extended his career-best home run total to 28. Lawrence Butler also went deep for Oakland, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Ian Happ hit two solo homers for the Cubs, who fell six games behind the New York Mets for the final NL wild card spot with 11 games remaining. Happ’s 25th homer of the season, a one-out shot in the ninth inning, brought the Cubs within one run. However, Oakland’s closer Mason Miller, despite giving up Happ’s homer, secured his 26th save by retiring the next two batters.
Oakland’s Mitch Spence pitched five effective innings for his first win since July 27, allowing two runs and seven hits.
The Cubs will look to rebound on Wednesday as they welcome back starting pitcher Justin Steele, who rejoins the rotation after a stint on the injured list. Meanwhile, the Athletics will counter with Brady Basso, who earned his first major league win against the White Sox last Friday.
