Tue Sep 17 05:41:21 UTC 2024: ## Former New Zealand Cabinet Minister Aussie Malcolm Subject of Multiple Child Sex Abuse Investigations Despite Death

**Wellington, New Zealand:** Former Cabinet Minister Aussie Malcolm, who died last week aged 83, was the subject of three separate police investigations into allegations of child sexual abuse, Police Commissioner Andrew Coster has confirmed.

While the first investigation, launched in 1992, was deemed to lack sufficient evidence, two other investigations remained open at the time of Malcolm’s death. One of these was initiated following witness statements provided to police from the Royal Commission into Abuse in Care.

Despite Malcolm’s death, the police are currently assessing options regarding the ongoing investigations. A man, who claimed he was sexually assaulted by Malcolm multiple times in 1989 when he was 15 and 16, and his mother have publicly urged police to continue investigating, seeking evidence to support their allegations.

This comes after concerns that Malcolm, a prominent politician with influential connections, escaped justice due to his status.

Coster has stated that the 1992 investigation was deemed thorough by the Police Complaints Authority at the time, but acknowledged the challenges of moving forward with prosecutions post-mortem. He emphasized the police’s willingness to support potential victims and encouraged them to come forward.

The victim, now 50, has expressed a desire to understand the full extent of Malcolm’s alleged abuse, comparing the situation to the Jimmy Saville case in England, where investigations continued after the entertainer’s death to identify victims and uncover the extent of his crimes.

The victim’s mother expressed disappointment over the decision not to prosecute in 1992, citing concerns that her son would be vulnerable to Malcolm’s legal team. She believes there was sufficient evidence at the time to proceed with charges.

The news has sparked public interest and raised questions about whether Malcolm’s alleged actions were known to others, particularly those within the National Party.

The Ministry of Police has declined to comment on the allegations or the ongoing investigations, and has not responded to inquiries regarding Minister of Police Mark Mitchell’s knowledge of the allegations.

This case highlights the enduring impact of child sexual abuse and the challenges of seeking justice for victims, especially in the face of powerful figures.
