**Koraput:** A two-day national seminar titled “The Role of Magazines and Periodicals of Odisha for Social Prosperity” commenced at the Central University of Odisha (CUO) on Tuesday. The event, organized by the Department of Odia Language and Literature in collaboration with Visva Bharati Praktani, aimed to explore the significant role of Odia periodicals in promoting social progress.

CUO Vice-Chancellor Chakradhar Tripathi inaugurated the seminar, highlighting the importance of translating the works of Rabindranath Tagore and social reformers like Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das into various languages to broaden their reach.

Visva Bharati Praktani president Mihir Kumar Sahu emphasized the crucial role of periodicals in fostering regional literature and promoting social development. Fakir Mohan Sahitya Parisad president Laxmikant Tripathy provided a historical overview of Odia periodicals, tracing their evolution from early publications to contemporary journals and their impact on social reform.

CUO registrar NC Panda and academic and administration advisor VC Jha also participated as guests of honour, discussing the influence of Buddhist literature on social change and the role of periodicals during India’s freedom struggle.

The seminar concluded with a call to document its findings for future policy decisions.
