Tue Sep 17 07:00:02 UTC 2024: ## Finnish Quantum Computing Startup QMill Raises $4.5 Million in Seed Funding
**Espoo, Finland -** QMill, a newly launched quantum computing startup, has secured $4.5 million in seed funding from investors Maki.vc, Antler, and Kvanted. Founded by a team including former Nokia Technologies CTO Hannu Kauppinen and quantum computing professor Mikko Möttönen, QMill aims to make quantum computing more accessible by developing practical algorithms for near-term quantum computers.
The company’s focus is on developing efficient algorithms to solve complex problems in industries like financial services and telecommunications, problems that are too large for even the most powerful supercomputers. “We want to make quantum computing accessible for real use cases,” said Kauppinen, CEO and co-founder of QMill. “We will target companies with ideas that we believe can deliver near-term advantages using available hardware.”
QMill believes its algorithms could also be valuable in optimizing large language models and other AI developments. The seed funding will be used to develop energy-efficient algorithms and build a team of 30 physicists, mathematicians, and computer scientists. The company plans to establish its business model and negotiate proof-of-concept partnerships with companies.
Quantum computing is expected to revolutionize computing by solving complex problems that current computers cannot handle. QMill’s focus on practical, near-term applications could make it a key player in bringing this transformative technology to market.
