**New Delhi:** The second day of Pitru Paksha, also known as “Dwitiya Shradh,” will be observed on Thursday, September 19th, 2024. This period is dedicated to offering ancestral rites and honoring deceased ancestors.
According to Hindu tradition, Pitru Paksha is a 15-day period during which individuals perform Shradh rituals to appease their ancestors. This year, the period commenced on September 5th and will conclude on September 19th.
**Who to perform Shradh for on Dwitiya Shradh:**
On the second day, individuals should perform Shradh rituals for those ancestors who passed away on the Dwitiya Tithi (second lunar day) of any month. The rituals can be performed on either the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) or Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) Dwitiya Tithi. In case the specific date of the ancestor’s passing is unknown, the ritual of Pitru Visarjan (ancestral immersion) can be performed.

The rituals involve offering food, fruits, sweets, and other offerings to the ancestors. It is believed that this pleases them and ensures their blessings. The ceremony begins with invoking the ancestors at the main entrance of the house.
