Mon Sep 16 15:51:11 UTC 2024: ## Shrimp Heist: Thieves Steal $300,000 Worth of Frozen Shrimp in New Jersey

Middlesex Borough, NJ – A group of thieves made off with a hefty haul of frozen shrimp, valued at over $300,000, after stealing a truck bound for Costco on September 5th. The truck, valued at $50,000, was carrying nearly 25,000 pounds of shrimp when it was taken from an industrial lot.

Police are unsure if the shrimp was specifically targeted or stolen at random. Detective Sgt. Sean Flanagan told News12 New Jersey, “It’s a bit unusual. Very high dollar amount, obviously.” The stolen shrimp never reached its intended destination.

The owner of the truck, who wished to remain anonymous, told WCAU-TV, “It’s only me and my truck, now I don’t have a job for a week. I’ve tried to make applications, I need to keep waiting.”

The theft occurred on private property within a fenced-in lot, raising questions about how the thieves gained access. Police are investigating various leads and theories, including the possibility that the shrimp was a specific target.

“We have different theories and leads right now,” Flanagan stated. “We can’t say for sure how they knew it was there.”
