Wed Sep 18 04:52:00 UTC 2024: ## Eight Fire Trucks Battle Rubbish Depot Blaze in Minnamurra
A significant fire broke out at the Kiama Council’s Waste and Recycling Centre in Minnamurra on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a response from eight fire trucks. The blaze, which ignited around 1:45 PM, engulfed a 30m by 30m pile of waste and spread to a small area of surrounding grass.
Firefighters from both the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW are working to contain the fire, which is producing significant smoke due to windy conditions. The smoke is primarily blowing out to sea.
The RFS has deployed a semi-trailer to provide bulk water to the site as water resources are limited. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and will be investigated once the fire is extinguished.
The waste recycling centre has been closed to the public until further notice, and no injuries have been reported.
