**TALLAHASSEE, FL -** Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell expressed confidence in quarterback DJ Uiagalelei despite a challenging start to the season. While acknowledging the team’s struggles, Norvell highlighted Uiagalelei’s potential and the “moments” where he has “given us a chance” for big plays.
The Oregon State transfer has struggled to find his footing in the Seminoles offense, completing just 56.6% of his passes for 666 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the first three games. However, Norvell remains optimistic, emphasizing Uiagalelei’s dedication and the team’s need for consistent execution.
“Looking at DJ, obviously, it’s been a challenging start for everybody,” Norvell stated. “I think when you look at the game, there were some things that DJ did really well in putting guys in a position and trying to give opportunities. But there were also a few times that we had some missed opportunities on his part, in our overall execution.”
The Seminoles entered the season with high expectations after winning the ACC last year. They were ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll but have stumbled to a 0-3 record, becoming the first team since Penn State in 2020 to lose their first three games after being ranked that high.
Florida State will face their second conference opponent this Saturday when they host California at Doak Campbell Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. ET.
Norvell remains confident that the Seminoles will turn their season around, pointing to the team’s commitment to improvement and the growth he sees in Uiagalelei.
