**BODINAYAKANUR, INDIA** – A 30-year-old father, identified only as Shangkar, has been arrested for selling his newborn son for 100,000 rupees (RM5,000) to a childless couple.

According to reports from the Malaysian Tamil daily, Malaysia Nanban, Shangkar and his wife welcomed their baby boy a month ago in Tamil Nadu, India. He befriended a local restaurant owner named Sivakumar, 42, who offered to buy the infant after learning of the birth.

Driven by desperation, Shangkar accepted the offer and handed over his son to Sivakumar in exchange for the sum of money.

Police received reports of the transaction and began monitoring the parents’ phone calls. Their investigation revealed frequent communication between Shangkar and Sivakumar, leading to the discovery of the illegal sale.

Shangkar, Sivakumar, and his wife were subsequently arrested and charged with the crime.
