**Hollywood, CA** – Oscar-winning director James Cameron has announced he will direct “Last Train From Hiroshima,” a film based on Charles Pellegrino’s upcoming book “Ghosts of Hiroshima” and his 2015 book “Last Train From Hiroshima.” This will be Cameron’s first non-Avatar film since 1997’s “Titanic.”

The film will explore the harrowing stories of survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, focusing on the true account of a Japanese man who survived both blasts. It draws from Pellegrino’s research, which includes first-hand accounts of both Japanese civilians and American airmen, alongside scientific insights into the aftermath of the bombings.

Cameron, who has long been haunted by the threat of nuclear war, was personally moved by the story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a survivor of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, whom he met shortly before his death. “It’s a subject that I’ve wanted to do a film about,” Cameron said. “I have to do it. I can’t turn away from it.”

Pellegrino’s “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which will be published in August 2025, the 80th anniversary of the bombings, will serve as a source for the film alongside his earlier work. Blackstone Publishing, which also published the audio book of “Oppenheimer,” will publish Pellegrino’s new book.

The film is expected to be a large-scale production, similar to Cameron’s previous successes, with an anticipated release date after the completion of the Avatar sequels. While no official cast or release date has been announced, the project has generated significant buzz in Hollywood, with many anticipating another cinematic triumph from the renowned director.
