Tue Sep 17 05:58:47 UTC 2024: ## Indian Government Seeks Peace in Manipur After Deadly Ethnic Conflict

**Imphal, India -** Amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur, India’s Interior Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the government is actively engaged in talks with the Meitei and Kuki communities, the two ethnic groups at the heart of the conflict. The clashes, which began last year, have resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 225 people and the displacement of over 60,000.

The conflict stems from a long-standing dispute over economic benefits and quotas in government jobs and education, which are currently prioritized for the Kuki community. The Meitei community, however, feels these policies are unfair and discriminatory.

The ongoing dialogue between the government and the warring factions represents a significant step toward bringing peace to the troubled region. The government hopes to find a solution that addresses the grievances of both communities and fosters a lasting peace.
