Hyderabad, India – The immersion of Lord Ganesh idols, marking the conclusion of the nine-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, continued in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning. The second day of the immersion process saw thousands of devotees flocking to Hussain Sagar lake and other water bodies across the city.
The immersion is expected to conclude by Wednesday afternoon. As of Tuesday night, over 105,000 idols were immersed in lakes and ponds across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, including those set up specifically for immersion by authorities.
The city was alive with festive fervour as organizers of Ganesh pandals took to the streets, carrying the idols in procession accompanied by traditional music and drumbeats. The Hussain Sagar lake, located in the heart of the city, saw a heavy influx of devotees and vehicles carrying idols queued up for immersion.
The 70-foot-tall Ganesh idol from the Khairatabad pandal, a major attraction during the festival, was immersed in the Hussain Sagar on Tuesday afternoon, concluding its journey through the city in a grand procession.
The auction of laddus offered as prasadam at various pandals was another highlight of the festivities. The belief is that procuring a laddu through auction brings prosperity to the successful bidder.
Approximately 20,000 police personnel were deployed for security and crowd management, while 468 cranes were utilized for the immersion process. The GHMC sanitation teams are working diligently to clean the water bodies and ensure a smooth conclusion to the festivities.
