**Goa, India** – FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez, while aiming for the elusive ISL title this season, expressed his concern about the lack of stability and overall direction in Indian football.
Marquez, who led Hyderabad FC to ISL victory in 2022, highlighted the constant churn of players in the league due to the influence of agents. He believes this lack of continuity is detrimental to the growth of both individual clubs and the national team.
“The problem is the agents, they are killing football,” he declared, pointing out that the excessive player turnover is not only detrimental to team cohesion but also negatively impacts the Indian national team. He emphasized that the ISL schedule, which sees matches played almost every day, makes it difficult to manage players who are also part of the national team.
“Indian football needs to work together and move in the same direction,” Marquez stressed. “Only then will the competition in India improve, and the Indian national team will improve.”
He further highlighted the need for more teams in the ISL to enhance competition and called for a more structured fixture schedule that benefits both the league and the national team.
While Marquez is confident in his ability to manage both the national team and FC Goa, he recognizes the challenges posed by the current system. He emphasized the need for better coordination between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the ISL, calling for a unified approach to improve the overall landscape of Indian football.
Marquez’s comments highlight the pressing issues facing Indian football and point to the need for a collaborative effort to address these challenges and create a more sustainable and competitive environment.
