Wed Sep 18 03:27:24 UTC 2024: ## Kamala Harris Focuses on Economic Proposals to Court Young Black Men

**WASHINGTON** – Vice President Kamala Harris, facing a potential loss of young Black male voters in the upcoming election, is emphasizing economic proposals that she believes will specifically benefit this key Democratic demographic.

A recent poll by the NAACP revealed that over 25% of Black men under 50 years old support former President Donald Trump, prompting Harris to focus on an “economic opportunity tour” targeting this group. Harris has highlighted programs like a $50,000 small business tax deduction and the elimination of medical debt from credit scores, arguing that these measures address historic economic disparities within Black communities.

“When they do better economically, we all do better,” Harris stated in a recent interview with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

This economic focus addresses two key vulnerabilities for the Democratic Party: public perception of the economy and the potential erosion of Black voter support. With the cost of living at the forefront of voter concerns, Harris aims to present herself as the candidate offering economic relief.

Her efforts come amidst Trump’s unusual strength with Black voters this election cycle, likely due to nostalgia for the pre-pandemic economy. Polls suggest that Trump’s rhetoric has resonated with this demographic, despite past controversies involving racially insensitive remarks.

“The divisiveness and the disrespect,” Harris said of Trump’s recent NABJ appearance, “The American people deserve better.”

The upcoming election will test whether Harris’s economic focus can secure the support of young Black men, a crucial voting bloc for the Democratic Party.
