Tue Sep 17 06:33:14 UTC 2024: ## Germany Pledges €100 Million to Ukraine for Winter Support

**CHISINAU** – Germany has announced an additional €100 million ($111 million) in aid for Ukraine to help them weather the coming winter. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made the announcement during a visit to Moldova on Tuesday.

Baerbock stressed that Russia is planning a “winter war” aimed at making life as difficult as possible for Ukrainians. She pointed to recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including power stations, which have caused widespread blackouts.

Ukraine has warned that it needs more air defenses to secure its energy infrastructure during the winter months, when energy demand is at its peak. The country needs to be able to repair damaged infrastructure quickly to meet the needs of its population as temperatures drop below freezing.

This latest aid package from Germany will provide vital support to Ukraine as it faces the harsh reality of a prolonged conflict and a looming winter.
