Mon Sep 16 14:46:00 UTC 2024: ## Dundalk FC Averted from Collapse, Takeover Talks Continue

Dundalk Football Club, facing imminent closure due to financial difficulties, has been given a reprieve as owner Brian Ainscough continues negotiations with interested parties for a takeover.

The club, which has won 14 League of Ireland titles and enjoyed significant European success in recent years, appeared set for liquidation on Monday afternoon. However, Ainscough confirmed that “there will be no liquidation today,” and that discussions with potential buyers are ongoing.

While a deal is not yet finalized, Ainscough emphasized his commitment to saving the club, stating that he is “still fighting the fight to make sure there’s a club for everyone going forward.”

Sources suggest that at least two parties are interested in acquiring Dundalk, one of which involves a local businessman with no previous involvement at Oriel Park. Any successful takeover would likely involve the club entering the Small Company Administrative Rescue Process (SCARP), a 45-day salvage scheme for insolvent companies. This would restructure debts and potentially lead to relegation to the First Division.

Local politicians have rallied behind the club, urging Ainscough to take his time to ensure a viable future for Dundalk FC. Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú stated that “Dundalk is too big to fail,” and called for a proper rescue package to be put in place. Minister Thomas Byrne TD confirmed that his department is monitoring the situation closely.

The club currently sits bottom of the Premier Division table and are scheduled to play away to Sligo Rovers this Saturday.
