**Sacramento, CA -** A recent coyote attack on a dog near Paradise Beach has raised concerns among dog owners about the growing coyote population on the American River Parkway.

Jill Foster, a Sacramento resident, witnessed the attack on her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Keeva, Tuesday morning. The 3-year-old dog sustained puncture wounds and scratches after being attacked by two coyotes.

Foster has been trying to reach city and county officials for weeks to express her concerns, citing a previous incident where a coyote killed a friend’s dog. However, both Sacramento City and County officials state that they have not received any recent reports of coyote activity.

Peter Tira, a spokesperson for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, confirmed that coyotes are common in Sacramento and often become bolder when they associate people with food. He emphasized the importance of leashing dogs and remaining aware of surroundings when on the parkway, as it is coyote habitat.

Despite the lack of official reports, Foster remains concerned about the potential for escalating interactions between people, pets, and coyotes, especially with the proximity of Paradise Beach and Glen Hall Park to a nearby elementary school.

“If I hadn’t have tried so much with the city and the county, trying to bring this to someone’s attention, I wouldn’t be here,” she said. “This is not something I wanted to do. It has to be fixed. Something has to happen.”

Sacramento City encourages residents to report any encounters with coyotes on city property through 311, so that the appropriate agency can be notified. Meanwhile, Sacramento County urges residents to report any animal attacks on the parkway to 911 and non-emergency situations to ranger dispatch.
