Wed Sep 18 04:20:33 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Congress Welcomes Atishi as CM, But Questions AAP’s Motives and Promises
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) has extended congratulations to Atishi on becoming the new Chief Minister of Delhi, but expressed skepticism about the public’s benefit given the short-term nature of her tenure. They also criticized outgoing CM Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to step down, claiming that his delay has led to Delhi’s infrastructure crumbling and resulted in water shortages and deaths during the monsoon season.
DPCC chief Devendra Yadav, while commending the appointment of Delhi’s third female CM, questioned the effectiveness of Atishi’s leadership. He highlighted Sheila Dikshit’s successful 15-year tenure as CM, emphasizing the importance of a strong leader. Yadav also expressed hope that Atishi will address increasing women’s issues, including rising rape cases, a concern neglected by the AAP government.
Yadav accused Kejriwal of withdrawing from his promises and using populist tactics. He criticized Kejriwal’s decision to resign on moral grounds only after the Supreme Court imposed conditions on him. The DPCC believes the nomination of a new CM is a necessary step to circumvent these legal restrictions.
Haroon Yusuf, former Delhi minister and communications chairman of DPCC, declared the Congress’ imminent return to power in Delhi, citing the AAP government’s corruption and public dissatisfaction.
