Wed Sep 18 04:10:56 UTC 2024: ## Salisbury Man Faces Murder Trial, Defense Declines to Present Evidence
**SALISBURY, NC** – Willie Earl Williams Jr. stands trial for two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Sabrina Curzi and Darryl Wright. The state has concluded its presentation of evidence, and the defense has declined to present any evidence of their own. Williams will also not take the stand in his own defense.
The murders occurred on August 3, 2018, at Towne Creek Park. According to police reports, Curzi and Wright went to the park to confront individuals who had allegedly beaten and robbed Curzi’s son, Michael. During a cookout at the park, Williams allegedly engaged in an altercation with Wright, culminating in a struggle over a gun. Williams reportedly shot both Curzi and Wright.
Key testimony was provided by Mary Katherine Marie Adkins, who described the events leading up to the shooting based on Williams’ accounts. Adkins stated that Williams had told her he shot Curzi after she sprayed him with pepper spray and threatened him with a gun. He then reportedly shot Wright.
Further evidence presented by the state included a recording of the 9-1-1 call made by Wright, in which he can be heard sounding calm before a loud noise occurs, potentially indicating the moment Williams struck him.
The prosecution also highlighted the fact that the gun used in the shooting was registered to Wright, but only four shell casings were found at the scene, suggesting that two additional shots were fired.
The defense did not present any evidence to counter the state’s claims. The judge will now instruct the jury on the possible verdicts, which include first-degree murder, second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, or not guilty. Closing arguments are set to begin on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
