Wed Sep 18 04:37:35 UTC 2024: ## Penumbral Lunar Eclipse Graces Skies, But Not Visible in India

**New Delhi, India:** The year’s final lunar eclipse, a penumbral lunar eclipse, is currently underway, starting at 6:12 AM IST on September 18th. While visible in parts of Europe, North and South America, and Africa, this particular celestial event will not be visible in India.

This penumbral eclipse occurs as the moon enters the Earth’s penumbra, or outer shadow. Unlike a total lunar eclipse, the moon does not completely disappear, but rather appears slightly dimmer.

The eclipse’s peak will occur at 8:14 AM IST, with the partial eclipse ending at 8:44 AM IST and the penumbral phase concluding at 10:17 AM IST.

While not visible in India, astronomy enthusiasts can witness the lunar eclipse live through various online platforms, such as TimeandDate.com.

This eclipse marks the second lunar eclipse of 2024, following the previous eclipse in March which was also not visible in India. As the eclipse is not visible in India, the astrological significance of the ‘Sutak’ period, observed during eclipses, is not applicable.

Meanwhile, the full moon, known as the ‘Supermoon’, will be visible from Monday evening to Thursday evening, offering skywatchers a chance to witness a brighter, closer moon.
