The institute, which aims to conduct specialized training and research programs in line with national and international standards, was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by government officials, workers’ and employers’ representatives, and international development partners.

“Ensuring occupational health and safety in the industrial sector is a collective moral duty,” stated Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), who highlighted the importance of upholding Bangladesh’s labor laws and global standards.

The Secretary of the MoLE, A.H.M. Shafiquzzaman, emphasized the growing significance of occupational safety as Bangladesh strives for economic development, reiterating that a safe working environment is crucial for sustainable progress.

Tuomo Poutiainen, ILO Country Director, expressed the International Labour Organization’s continued support for the creation of a safe and healthy working environment. He urged the government to leverage the momentum generated by NOSHTRI by collaborating with worker and employer organizations and consider ratifying the remaining two fundamental ILO conventions related to occupational safety and health.
