**New Delhi, India:** A fresh controversy has erupted in Delhi politics, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal alleging that the newly appointed Chief Minister-designate, Atishi, has familial ties to Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani, a former Delhi University professor convicted and later acquitted in the 2001 Parliament attack case.
Maliwal claimed that Atishi’s parents were involved in a 2016 event at the Press Club of Delhi, commemorating Afzal Guru, a man convicted for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack. The event, according to Maliwal, was organized by Atishi’s parents and Syed Abdul Rahman Gilani, with slogans advocating for Kashmir’s freedom and glorifying Afzal Guru being raised.
Further adding to the criticism, Maliwal stated that Atishi’s parents authored an article titled “Arrest and Torture of Syed Geelani.” She shared screenshots of the article on her social media platform, accompanied by a caption that reads, “God help Delhi.”
Maliwal’s accusations come just days after Atishi was chosen as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation.
Afzal Guru, convicted for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack, was executed in 2013.
The accusations against Atishi have sparked a political storm, with the AAP yet to respond to these claims. The Delhi government is now facing questions regarding the potential implications of these alleged ties and the public’s reaction to the new Chief Minister.
