Wed Sep 18 03:58:53 UTC 2024: ## Atishi to Address First Delhi Assembly Session as Chief Minister-Designate

**New Delhi:** Atishi, the newly-appointed Chief Minister-designate of Delhi, will address her first session as leader of the house in the Delhi Assembly next Thursday, September 27th. The Delhi government has called for a two-day special session on September 26th and 27th, party officials confirmed on Tuesday.

This special session coincides with Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation as Chief Minister and Atishi’s claim to form the government. The agenda for the session is yet to be finalized, but Atishi is expected to speak on challenges facing Delhi and the government’s future plans.

The oath-taking ceremony for Atishi has yet to be scheduled, as it depends on dates provided by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena after approval from the President.

Constitutional expert SK Sharma, a former secretary to the Lok Sabha and Delhi Assembly, stated that the President has the power to appoint ministers and the Chief Minister. He added that as the AAP holds a majority in the assembly, there should be no obstacle to Atishi assuming the role.

While the Delhi Assembly usually holds three major sessions – budget, monsoon, and winter – there have been instances of additional sessions to address pressing issues. It is also mandatory for the assembly to hold sessions at least twice within a six-month period.
