**Mumbai, India** – EIH Ltd., the company behind the renowned Oberoi and Trident hotel brands, announced ambitious expansion plans with new developments in Pune and London. The company is simultaneously facing a legal challenge from Anastasia Oberoi, daughter of the late P.R.S. Oberoi, who is disputing her exclusion from the family inheritance.
**New Developments in India and UK**
EIH acquired a majority stake in Pune-based Muttha Towers II Private Ltd. for ₹254 crore, marking the launch of a Trident Hotel with 175 rooms and a commercial development. This project, estimated to cost ₹972 crore, is expected to open by Q1 of FY30.
Meanwhile, EIH established a new entity in the UK, EIH London Investments Ltd., to develop an Oberoi hotel in London. The parent company will hold a 51% stake, with the hotel slated to open by FY28.
**Family Inheritance Dispute**
Anastasia Oberoi has filed a lawsuit against EIH and its holding companies, alleging that her brother Vikramjit Singh Oberoi and cousin Arjun Oberoi are preventing the execution of her father’s will. The dispute centers around her claim to a rightful share of the family inheritance, particularly shares in EIH.
The Delhi High Court granted Anastasia interim relief, restraining EIH and its holding companies from transferring their shares. The court also protected Anastasia’s possession of the family property, ‘Villa Ashiana’.
Vikramjit and Arjun argue that the shares can only be transferred to a blood relative, not a trust, and support an earlier will that entitles them to the shares. Anastasia argues that selling the shares to Vikramjit and Arjun would violate her rights.
**Impact and Future**
The legal battle raises questions about the division of the Oberoi estate. While the dispute is ongoing, industry experts believe it may not significantly impact the brand. However, if Anastasia prevails, it could lead to a buyout of her stake, similar to the Kalyani family saga.
Despite the legal challenge, EIH’s growth plans remain on track, with expansion into tier three locations and joint ventures with Reliance Industries. The Oberoi Group remains focused on providing high-quality service and unique design elements in its new developments and existing properties.
